ANHYDROUS ALUMINIUM CHLORIDE
Manufacturing Plant And Technology Offered
Gaseous chlorine is reacted with molten Aluminium in specially designed reactor to form Aluminum Chloride in gaseous phase. Heat liberated because of the exothermic reaction is removed partially in melting solid Aluminium and balance by radiation from the molten Aluminium surface.
Vapours of Aluminium Chloride lose their heat of sublimation from the wall of the condenser and get deposited there. This deposited solid is discharged into specially designed containers by hammering the condenser wall from outside, periodically. After cooling, it is conveyed to a silo from where it is size graded and packed under dry air blanketing.
Unreacted Chlorine and uncondensed gases are efficiently scrubbed in well-designed scrubbers.
The manufacturing section is modular in nature where averaged output of each reactor is 2.0 MT per day.
The operation of the reactor is such that it has to be operated for all the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The reactor can not be shut down in between, since cost of restarting is high & it reduces life of the reactor.
This product is very sensitive to moisture. Exposure to even atmospheric moisture (humidity) can bring down the purity & release of Hydrogen Chloride fumes. To maintain high purity levels, it is advisable to have a control over humidity (low humidity is desirable) especially in product packing area.
To start one reactor, approximately 4.0 MT of Aluminium has to be melted inside the reactor. Entire start up procedure of the reactor needs three to four days & production is stabilized in about two days
During closing down of the reactor, dead stock of Aluminium inside the reactor solidifies. It is given out for melting & ingots are formed.
